For the third time we have Anita and Gabry visiting us. Anita is part of the team that does a lot for Hope for Life and together with her husband Jelle she is contact person for the foundation in the Netherlands. Gabry had built with David, her husband, the website for us. During their visit, Anita and Gabry wrote a report about their experiences what you can read below.
Report visit Hope for Life, Latvia
Every time we arrive in Latvia we are struck by the beautiful country with many forests and lakes. The difference between Riga, the capital, and the countryside is great.There is a huge difference between rich and poor and the distress is distressing to see.
It is for us always like coming home at Nynke. The hospitality, love, attention and warmth is not only for the young women who come on her path and who receives it, but also for us. To go together with Nynke “quickly” to the village means a smile, a chat and a hug for many people she meets. People are going to shine when they see Nynke, this surprised us again and again. We see that the people now also step easier forwards to Nynke and it shows again how Latvia fits Nynke :-). It’s nice to see that there are often young people at hers who always can stay for a meal and for who she offers always a listening ear.
Over a year ago Marina came to live with Nynke. We have seen the past year Marina changing from a shy girl to a young woman who was waiting for us, with a big smile, at the bus stop in Smiltene. She became much more independent, more open and clearly has more confidence. We see how she changes now she is in a warm and safe place. She comes daily home to someone with who she can make fun, who she trusts, who is there for her, but also corrects her when needed. It is good to see Marina and Nynke together, there is really a special bond between them.
We hope that a suitable home where will be place for several womenwill be found soon. And then we come back to work!
