What a turbulent and restless time it is. Everyone hoped and prayed that it wouldn’t come so far, but war has broken out. Ukraine is fiercely resisting the Russian attack and we see the most harrowing messages, photos and videos passing by. In a war like this there are only victims, on both sides, and how heartwarming it is to see so many offering help in this time of need. From free transport of trains and planes to massive individual transports. Many from all over the world also offer the refugees a place to sleep and live. I am also registered as a host on various pages and follow messages on a daily basis. What also touches very deeply are the reports that many refugees are becoming victims of human trafficking….

Over the past few days I have realized how big the difference is between growing up in Latvia and living in Latvia as a foreigner. The war is in the genes of the Latvians and I experience the fear in them every day. Daily I speak to someone, sometimes several, who is restless or even really scared. Some of them have already packed bags ready. I don’t feel that fear, but given the history of the country, I do understand. I’m glad I can listen, encourage and pray, that I can stand with them.

Nobody, including me, knows how long it will take, how it will proceed and whether Latvia will be in the danger zone. I do know that I am in the right place at the right time more than ever! God gives me strength and I know He cares for me!
