Several years ago, I had the opportunity to work with some teenage girls, now 17,18 and 20 years old, at the Tabita family centre. All three of them have recently become mothers of healthy babies. We had a special morning with them in which many topics were discussed. They were very open and also talked honestly about issues they are facing. We were able to listen, encourage them and also give advice in some situations. The plan is to spend time with these young mothers every six weeks and offer them support where necessary.
At the end of February, I will participate in a preparation trip for the outreach Mission of Hope Latvia which will take place in Daugavpils in August. (https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daugavpils). During the outreach I will (co-)organise the women’s meeting and I am happy that Ilona will be present again with her paintings. There are a number of other activities I will be involved in, more on this later.
Last month, four teenagers from Ogre died of drug overdose via e-cigarettes. Three of them were in the same school, but unfortunately it has not been possible to trace where the drugs came from. Ogre is known as a town with a big drug problem among teenagers anyway, but this new drug seems to be 10x!!!! stronger than heroin. Meanwhile, it has already taken several young lives in Latvia.
