Prayer

These are hectic, difficult and uncertain times for all of us. For several weeks now we see how many of us are struggling with the effects of the corona virus. The fear is great and more and more people are locking themselves up in their homes. Fear of getting infected or making sure not infecting someone else. What about those who are alone and don't see anyone anymore? How many people will get into financial difficulties because of all this?

We also deal with the virus in Latvia. At the time of writing this, 86 people here are officially infected with the virus and till now no one has died. The shops are still open and have taken their precautions as far as possible. I see the fear in many faces and the desperation.

More and more appointments and meetings are canceled and we live day by day.
Although we cannot be together physically, we can keep in touch with each other through a phone call, a card or a text message. Let's take care of each other, let's keep looking after one another.

Yesterday I did my shopping in the supermarket. Keeping your distance where possible also applies here and it worked out reasonably well. I paid to one of my favorite cashiers and saw the panic and tiredness in her eyes. When I asked her how she was doing, tears almost came to her eyes. She has to work, but finds it super heavy and scary. I offered to pray for her and I was allowed to do this while the next customer was patiently waiting.

We have a God who loves and cares for us. He is not the one who causes this virus and the fear it brings! These days there are many people who pray and many who ask for prayers. In addition to talking to God, prayer is also an expression of solidarity with each other.
Let us continue to pray with and for each other in these uncertain times!
